Here’s my blog entry: WHO CARES?
Convert to Islam
February 10, 2007So I went to the MAC Youth – MSA first lecture of the series The Ten Mubashareen last night at Carleton U. I have to say that at the beginning I was a bit cynnical that this was just going to be another historical lecture. But it wasn’t it was quite informative and to be honest with you I enjoy history (especially when presented by a brother that’s so passionate about it Br. Abdala Kheiriddine)…anyways so that’s my plug for the series.
So the audience was in for a nice surprise as right after the series there was a brother in the audience that wanted to pronounce his Shahada (proclamation of faith). Meaning that he wanted to convert to Islam. But it was what was mentioned afterwards that was quite interesting. Abdala (who performed the 30 second ceremony of instructing the brother on how to make the proclamation) said something quite interesting. Does anyone remember the movie Dangerous Minds (I aparently am the only one in the audience who has seen it)…so in the movie (which is quite good actually) the English teacher tells her class (which is full of gangsters and kids from the ghettos) that they all have an A+, the only catch is that they have to keep it throughout the semester. Abdala likened this to the brother that converted, as in Islam we believe that once you convert, all your past sins have been wiped and you essentially start out with an “A+”.
I liked the analogy.
Oh and last night’s lecture was about Othman ibn Affan (May God be pleased with him) whose life is highlited by his hayaa’ (well mannered and shyness) and his generosity. As it turned out, the brother that converted wanted to start out his Islam by earning an extra bonus, he had saved up some money and donated it directly after his conversion. I pray that God blesses that brother…and Helps maintain his A+.
Baird You Moron!
February 9, 2007Quit deflecting questions away from you in the house of commons by comparing yourself to the liberals. You’ve done JACK up till now for the environment. Show a little respect for yourself and answer the questions truthfully. If you have no real plan for the environment, then say so.
Does anyone believe the BS coming of this guys mouth? He says that if Canada commits to Kyoto goals, the results would be devastating to the country’s economy!! I’ll admit I don’t know much about Kyoto and it’s goals, but wouldn’t living in a healthy environment translate into less money spent on health care, the quality of life increases, people live longer healthier lives and contribute more to the economy of the country?
I bought one of these last night
February 9, 2007This thing rocks. I can’t wait to use it tonight.
